Customs inspection efforts increased, market reaction is obvious

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, Ecuadorian white shrimp batches refused to be imported in June due to high sodium sulfite content, accounting for 75% of all frozen South American white shrimp batches refused to be imported. This move was quickly transmitted to the market, resulting in a number of Ecuadorian white shrimp factories being included in the key inspection list, involving Santa, shrimp emperor, crown and other mainstream brands. The comprehensive upgrading of customs inspection items, including sulfur dioxide, heavy metals, agricultural residues and other aspects, further ensured the safety of imported products.

However, the increase in inspection rates has also brought about a series of chain reactions.First of all, futures customs time extension, importers can not pick up on time, resulting in increased costs and capital occupation.Secondly, market panic intensified, industry prices fluctuated, some importers faced the risk of returning shipments, and the loss per container could be as high as tens of thousands of yuan.Under this dual pressure, importers generally choose to reduce imports in response to uncertain market conditions.

Higher market prices, tight stocking period

After entering August, the domestic import frozen white shrimp spot market transactions gradually active, prices higher. This is mainly due to the Mid-Autumn Festival, National Day and other holidays approaching, the market demand for goods increased. However, due to the uncertainty of customs clearance timeliness, the container pickup time of Ecuadorian white shrimp faces greater challenges.Importers are worried that they will not be able to complete customs clearance and pick up goods before the festival, thus missing the golden period of sales. Therefore, secondary and tertiary wholesale markets and retailers have stepped up stock preparation in advance to cope with possible market supply shortages.

Ecuador responded positively and resumed exports in accordance with regulations

The Ecuadorian Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) also attaches great importance to the problem of excessive sodium metabisulfite in Ecuadorian white shrimp.According to a CNA announcement in early June, China has lifted export restrictions on nine Ecuadorian shrimp processing plants, but these plants need to provide laboratory analysis reports to ensure that each batch meets drug residue regulations and submit health certificates before they can resume export business smoothly. This requirement undoubtedly puts forward higher requirements for Ecuadorian shrimp processing plants, and also reflects China's high attention to the safety of imported food.
