Overview of Ecuadorian White Shrimp Customs Export Data in September 2024

I. Overall export situation

In September 2024, Ecuador's total export volume of white shrimp reached 103,810 tons, among which China, the United States and Spain, as the main export markets of Ecuadorian white shrimp, continue to play an important role.

II. Details of Major Export Markets

1. China

Export volume: 54,700 tons, about 2604 containers

Proportion: 52.69% of Ecuador's total export volume of white shrimp

Recent trend: Since May 2024, the number of white shrimp exported from Ecuador to China has shown a continuous downward trend.From 75,900 tons in May to 54,700 tons in September, exports have hit a new low for the year, although they remained China's main importer in September.Compared with the same period last year, Ecuador exported 66,250 tons to China in September 2023, down 17% this year from the same period last year, or about 500 containers.This change may be affected by multiple factors such as demand adjustment in the Chinese market, price fluctuations and international competition.

2. United States

Export volume: 17,840 tons, about 850 containers

Proportion: 17.19% of Ecuador's total export volume of white shrimp

Recent trends: The U.S. market has been one of the most important export destinations for Ecuadorian white shrimp.However, Ecuador's exports to the US market have also fluctuated after experiencing the impact of the US double reverse policy and the domestic energy crisis.Although exports picked up in August, the September figure again dropped sharply to 17,840 tonnes.Compared with the same period last year, 22,380 tons were exported to the United States in September 2023, down 20% from the same period last year.The drop exceeded market expectations and showed that demand for Ecuadorian white shrimp is undergoing some adjustment in the US market.

3. Spain

Export volume: 6530 tons, about 310 cabinets

Proportion: 6.29% of Ecuador's total white shrimp exports

Note: Spain is the third most important export market for Ecuadorian white shrimp, and its position cannot be ignored.Ecuador's exports to Spain have remained low since June.However, compared with the same period last year, 5880 tons were exported to Spain in September 2023, up 11 per cent month-on-month in September.This growth trend shows that despite the fierce competition in the international market, Ecuadorian white shrimp still has certain competitiveness and market potential in the Spanish market.
