November China imports frozen shrimp market data analysis
The data of warm water shrimp imported from China in November 2024 showed a multi-dimensional change trend. In that month, China arrived in Hong Kong with 79,000 tons of warm water shrimp, up 6% year-on-year. Among them, Ecuadorian white shrimp occupied the big head, reaching 54,000 tons, about 2718 cabinets. From the overall import volume, China imported 826,000 tons of warm water shrimp from January to November, while Ecuador imported 608,000 tons of white shrimp.
In terms of import structure, 77,000 tons of shelled shrimp and 2,000 tons of shrimp in November together constituted 79,000 tons of warm water shrimp. Shrimp with shell increased by 7.4% year-on-year, about 3600 + cabinets, an increase of 8,600 tons (about 414 cabinets) compared with the previous month. However, shrimp products arrived in Hong Kong at 2100 + tons, but the average import price dropped to the lowest level of 5.47 US dollars/kg this year.
On the price trend, the price of warm shrimp (except shrimp) arrived in Hong Kong in November rose sharply to US $5.3/kg. The average import price of Ecuadorian white shrimp soared to 4.72 US dollars/kg, up 0.2 US dollars/kg from October, reaching a new high in 2024. This may be due to a variety of factors, such as changes in supply and demand in international markets and fluctuations in local production costs in Ecuador.
From the perspective of source countries, Ecuador accounted for 70.6% of China's imports of warm-water shell shrimp in November. Although it still dominated, the market share of Indian shrimp increased significantly to 17.8%. A total of 13,700 tons of Indian shrimp (excluding shrimp) arrived in Hong Kong in November, up 25% year-on-year. From January to November, China imported 120,900 tons of white shrimp (excluding shrimp) from India. The rise of Indian shrimp may be due to its efforts in recent years to improve breeding technology, strengthen quality control and optimize market development strategies in China.
Ecuadorian white shrimp arrived at the port slightly, about 54,000 tons, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year, and the number of containers arriving at the port increased by 93 containers compared with October. This shows that Ecuadorian white shrimp still has strong stability and competitiveness in China market, and its mature breeding industry and stable supply system are important supports.
Overall, China imported frozen shrimp market pattern changed in November. Ecuadorian white shrimp, relying on its scale advantage and quality reputation, has maintained a certain growth despite record prices. Shrimp, on the other hand, has become a force to be reckoned with by virtue of its rapid rise in market share.
