China Customs August import white shrimp data released: imported shrimp to Hong Kong more than 80,000 tons
According to the latest China customs data released in August 2024, the total import volume of white shrimp declined slightly, and the import volume of shrimp products with shell decreased slightly from 80,000 tons in July to 79,000 tons, reflecting the cautious attitude of importers in the face of fluctuations in the international market. However, this reduction did not result in a shortage of supply in the market, but rather encouraged a more diversified source of imports to meet the continued demand of domestic consumers for high-quality white shrimp.
The significant decrease in Indian white shrimp imports (by 2720 tons) was quickly filled by increased white shrimp imports from Ecuador and Saudi Arabia. Ecuador, a long-time white shrimp exporter, returned to a high of 60,000 tons in August, up nearly 11 per cent from the previous month, once again consolidating its leading position in the China market. The sudden emergence of Saudi white shrimp has become a bright spot in this month's import data. The import volume has surged more than twice, showing the huge potential and competitiveness of Saudi white shrimp in the China market.
This series of changes is not only a direct reflection of the fluctuation of supply and demand in the international market, but also the result of the strategic adjustment of China white shrimp importers. In the face of the trend of Indian white shrimp prices rising first and then falling, importers obviously pay more attention to supply chain flexibility and cost control. They began to seek more diversified import channels to reduce dependence on a single market, while taking advantage of price differences between white shrimp from different origins to optimize procurement costs. The steady supply of Ecuadorian white shrimp and the rapid growth of Saudi white shrimp are the concrete embodiment of this strategic adjustment.
China's white shrimp import market is expected to continue to be diversified and flexible. As consumers 'demands for food safety and quality continue to increase, and as the international trading environment continues to change, importers will pay more attention to transparency and sustainability in their supply chains. At the same time, white shrimp exporters from all countries will also increase their efforts to explore the China market and compete for the favor of China consumers by improving product quality and optimizing logistics services.
