ecuador's shrimp exports rise 33,000 tons in august
According to the latest Ecuadorian customs data, in August 2024, Ecuador exported 111,250 tons of shrimp, down 4.69% month-on-month from 116,720 tons in July, but did not shake its position as an important shrimp exporter in the world. This slight monthly fluctuation is normal in international trade and may be affected by many factors, including seasonal demand changes, international market price fluctuations, logistics and transportation efficiency, etc. However, exports in August increased only slightly by 1% compared with the same period last year, almost flat, showing the stability and resilience of Ecuador's shrimp export market.
Broadening the perspective to the overall performance from January to August 2024, Ecuadorian shrimp exports showed a more positive growth trend. Total exports reached 926,300 tons, an increase of 33,000 tons over the same period last year, an increase equivalent to about 1574 containers of cargo. This data not only highlights the strong production capacity and market competitiveness of Ecuador's shrimp industry, but also reflects the continued favor of Ecuador's high-quality shrimp products in the global market.
It is worth noting that in Ecuador's shrimp export structure, shrimp in shell has always dominated. From January to August 2024, the export volume of shrimp with shell reached 812,400 tons, accounting for 87.7% of the total export volume, basically unchanged from 87.8% in the same period last year. This data shows that Ecuador's shelled shrimp products have a very high degree of recognition and demand stability in the international market, which is an important pillar of its export earnings.
Despite Ecuador's excellent shrimp export market performance, many challenges lie ahead. Uncertainty in the global trading environment, price volatility in international markets and increased consumer demand for food safety and sustainability will have an impact on Ecuador's shrimp exports. Therefore, Ecuador needs to continue to strengthen its links with the international market, improve product quality and added value, and promote industrial transformation and upgrading to achieve sustainable development.
